(MISSOURI NET)-- Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweiful has announced an annual effort to return unclaimed property to Missourians. Missouri families, businesses and local governments with unclaimed property will be listed in newspapers across the Show-Me State. the names of unclaimed property owners are required by law to be published in newspapers and are listed annually.
Meghan Lewis with the State Treasurers office says the amount of unclaimed property in Missouri is up more than 50-million dollars from last year and there’s a wide variety of property just waiting for its rightful owner.
Unclaimed property includes a wide variety of items including bank accounts, stocks, bonds and contents of a safe deposit box. Lewis encourages Missourians to talk to their family members, particularly those who are aging, about their bank accounts, insurance policies and other financial aspects so that they don’t become unclaimed property.
