Daron Simpson

(KNZA)--A St. Joseph man charged in a deadly double shooting in January at a residence north of Faucett, Missouri is now facing additional charges—including first-degree murder.

The St. Joseph New Press reports Buchanan County Prosecutor Dwight Scroggins has filed an amended complaint charging 34-year-old Daron Simpson with first-degree murder or an alternative of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and two counts of armed criminal action.

Simpson is charged in the January 24th shooting death of 36-year-old Andrew Clary, of Troy.  He also accused of shooting his ex-wife, Amanda Simpson.  She survived the shooting.

During a hearing Friday, a judge set a week long jury trial beginning March 14th of next year.

If convicted of the first-degree murder charge, Simpson could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.  Prosecutors haven’t announced if they will seek the death penalty.
