USD 113 Board Hears Wetmore Football Proposal
06/10/2015

(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education Monday evening heard a proposal from a committee to start an 8-man football program at Wetmore High school beginning with the 2015-16 school year.

The proposal comes after the Vermillion USD 380 Board of Education voted in May to discontinue the football cooperative between Centralia High School and Wetmore High School, effective with the 2016-17 school year.

Under the proposal, Superintendent Todd Evans says the program would begin with a junior varsity team this fall and then varsity team in two years because of Kansas State High School Activities Association regulations.

Evans said the committee is asking that the district continue to contribute $6,700 a year to fund the program as they have done through the cooperative agreement with Centralia and then all other expenses would be paid for by the Wetmore community through fundraisers and donations.

Evans said the board will need to make a decision in July if they're going to allow Wetmore High School to start its own team for the 2015 season.
