(KMZA)--A vacancy remains on the Seneca City Council.
That comes after Jim Schmitz withdrew his application for the open 3rd Ward Council seat Wednesday evening. No specific reason was given for his withdrawal, but came after a heated exchange with Mayor Joe Mitchell.
Schmitz, who was the lone applicant for the position, had appeared at the meeting to be interviewed for the position.
City Administrator Matt Rehder says the city will continue to seek applications for the position until its filled. He said an application form can be filled out at City Hall and is also available on-line at the city’s web site. Those with questions can call City Hall and talk to Rehder or contact any Council member.
The 3rd Ward includes the area south of Main Street in Seneca.
Jim Ronnebaum won the Council seat on write-in votes during the April 7th general election, but turned down the position. It was previously held by Galen Niehues, who didn’t seek another term.
