Shubert Man Arrested on Multiple Charges
06/02/2015

(KLZA)-- A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22nd in Richardson County Court for 36-year old Lance Hayes of Shubert on two felony charges of intentionally committing child abuse and misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, driving under suspension and fictitious plates.

According to court documents Richardson County Sheriff Don Pounds observed Hayes place two minor children, ages three and six in a vehicle in Table Rock on May 22nd. Pounds then followed the vehicle Hayes was allegedly driving to Richardson County where Deputy Sheriff Lewis Barker was waiting to make a stop, because the Sheriff’s Office was aware Hayes was driving on a suspended license.

Hayes turned onto a gravel road just west of Humboldt and apparently when he noticed the patrol units, he accelerated to a high rate of speed.  Deputy Barker attempted to catch up and Sheriff Pounds followed in excess of 80 miles per hour with the vehicles continuing to pull away from him. Due to dust, Deputy Barker lost site of the Hayes vehicle and at that point the pursuit was terminated because of the children being in the vehicle.

A week later, May 29th, when the children were returned to their mother the Sheriff’s office served an arrest warrant on Hayes outside his Shubert home.

Hayes made a first appearance in Richardson County Court June 1, and cash bond was set at $650 with special bond conditions.
