Hiawatha Taking Steps to Address Derelict Properties
06/02/2015

(KNZA)--The city of Hiawatha is taking steps to address derelict properties in the community.
The City Commission Monday evening approved a resolution setting a hearing for July 20th at 6 in the evening on eleven derelict structures.
City Attorney Don Cashman says at the hearing the property owners, their representatives or any lienholders of record will have the opportunity to show why the structures shouldn’t be ordered repaired or demolished.
Cashman said a lot of the properties have delinquent taxes.
He says the city is still looking at other derelict properties as well.
