Richardson Co Commissioners Address Radio Issues Again
05/28/2015

(KLZA)-- Once again Tuesday Richardson County Commissioners spent a portion of their meeting time discussing radio communication problems.

While the issues for the Sheriff’s Office have improved, the Road and Bridge Department Issues are continuing. Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Dixon, Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert and Sheriff Don Pounds met with Commissioners Tuesday to discuss the issues.

Dixon, who is in charge of radio communications for Richardson County, noted that being told the system is not working, does not help him solve the problems. Dixon said he needs to know the locations where the equipment is when it is not working and when it is.

Issues include the Road Department being located in a low spot, the possibility that radios are not all wired correctly and what Dixon says is the biggest issue, not having the infrastructure up on the towers where it will doe the most good.

Dixon says the schedule calls for putting new equipment on a tower in Humboldt in the latter part of June.  New equipment for a tower in the Barada area cannot be installed until wiring work and projects to secure the site are completed.

Dixon provided maps for the Board, Huppert and Sheriff Pounds to look at.  He also noted that due to the topography of Richardson County  there will likely always be some spots that just don’t have good radio reception.

Dixon also noted that he would be able to help train employees with when they need to change frequencies based on their location.
