(KNZA)--Lightning, accompanying Monday's severe thunderstorms, knocked out emergency communications equipment used by the Brown County Sheriff's Office early Monday evening.
Sheriff John Merchant says repairs were made and all systems are back to normal. That means members of the public can again directly contact the Sheriff's Office dispatch.
During the outage, Horton police handled emergency calls until repairs could be made.
Monday's storms also left Hiawatha, and some residents of surrounding communties, in the dark for hours.
Heavy storms are initially blamed for the outage, reported by Westar energy around 5:30 Monday evening.
Power remained out for around four hours while Westar crews made the needed repairs.
