Hiawatha Police to Take Part in " Click It or Ticket "
05/14/2015

(KNZA)--Beginning Monday and running through May 31, drivers can expect an increased police presence on Hiawatha streets.

The Hiawatha Police Department will join almost 150 other law enforcement agencies throughout the state—including the Kansas Highway Patrol--in aggressively enforcing Kansas occupant restraint and other traffic laws as part of the 2015 "Click It or Ticket" traffic enforcement campaign.

Grant funds through the Kansas Department of Transportation pays the overtime of officers participating in the campaign.

Police Chief John Defore says the aim of Click It or Ticket is simple:  to drastically reduce the number of preventable deaths and injuries that occur when unbelted drivers and passengers are involved in traffic crashes.

According to KDOT, almost half of those killed in crashes each year on Kansas roads are not belted in.
