(KAIR)--The Atchison County Commission held a budget meeting Tuesday afternoon, taking another step toward preparing a budget for 2016.
Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the approximately ten minute meeting consisted of county department heads and elected officials and was meant “to just get everyone on the same page that we have thirteen weeks to have the budget finalized, and ready to go to publish to be adopted by August 25th as listed by statute in the state of Kansas. It's a pretty feasible timeline and we will probably meet once or twice with department heads as needed to discuss their budgets and any capital improvements they expect.”
Schuele says the meeting was a good start to the budget season, and he says he expects the Commission to start seeing budget requests coming in by the end of May and into the first week of June.
