(KNZA)--No tools in the classroom.
The ban was approved during Monday evening's meeting of the USD 430 Board of Education.
The push for the change in the South Brown County Schools came from Horton High School Principal Dave Norman, with the implementation made “due to safety and classroom related issues.”
What it includes is no wearing of pliers, a utility knife combination, or the possession of any tools during the school day, with shop class being the exception if such tools are needed.
The policy states there is no reason for a student to have any utility items on their person in the classroom, and failure to comply will be considered “defiance of authority.”
The change was approved unanimously by the board of education.
Superintendent Dr. Steve Davies, during Monday's meeting, also had kind words in regards to a recent donation intended to enhance technology at the Everest Middle School.
That comes in the way of 25 smart tablets gifted to the school by Lester Randall, Chairman of the Kickapoo Tribe.
The tablets will be utilized for student classroom work.
