(KLZA)-- The Falls City Board of Education approved three new hires during their Monday evening meeting.
Employment contracts were approved for Julie Strathman to serve as School Psychologist. Strathman is from the DuBois area. Taylor Shubert of Falls City has been hired to teach 2nd grade. Stephanie Wenz of Falls City was hired as the Family & Consumer Science Teacher. She does not have an endorsement in this area but will be set up with programs and mentors to bring her up to speed in this area.
Superintendent Tim Heckinlively noted that colleges no longer offer a degree in this area, but this type of class offering is still required for school districts to be accredited.
During the audiences portion of the meeting, Shelly Wisdom asked the Board to allow her son Derrick McCann to take part in the graduation ceremony Sunday. McCann was barred from the graduation and other events following his arrest earlier this spring. He will be allowed to graduate, however no action was taken by the Board following the request Monday evening.
Heckinlively explained later if the Board decided to reverse the decision, they would inform the administration and the family would then be notified.
