(KAIR)--New leadership is selected for the Leavenworth Regional Catholic Schools.
That word comes in a letter released Thursday, and posted on the school system's website.
Archbishop Joseph Naumann and members of the school system have accepted the reccomendation of the Board of Trustees to appoint Richard "Rick" Geraci as President of the Catholic Schools and as Principal at Immacculata High School.
In those roles, Geraci will be responsible for leading the schools into the future, while providing leadership, direction and oversight of critical programs related to academics, enrollment, development and financial stability.
The letter cites Geraci's military background, including his previous role as Commandant of Cadets and Dean of Students at the New Mexico Military Institute, as skills he brings into his new roles of leadership.
His appointment becomes effective July 1.
He replaces six-year Immaculata Principal Helen Schwinn, who is retiring.
Selection of Geraci to fill the leadership roles comes on the heels of another major move forward for the Leavenworth Catholic Schools.
It was early this month that the school system announced that concerns of low enrollment, and a lack of funding, have subsided.
That's due to an influx of contributions and pledges totaling more than $310,000 for the next school year and over $505,000 over the next three years, meaning a total of more than $815,000. Additionally, 71 students have enrolled for the next school year at Immaculata, while more are expressing interest.
Despite those funds, and enrollment increases, the school system, in a letter to the public released May 1st, says the goal of $1 million for the next four years, and an even higher enrollment for the schools, will continue to be pursued.
