(MSC News)--Flags will be flown at half-staff across Kansas Friday.
Governor Sam Brownback has ordered the flags to be flown in that formation, from sun-up to sun-down, in honor of the Kansas Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day.
The 33rd annual ceremony will happen at noon Friday at the Statehouse, where Topeka Police Corporal Jason Harwood will be honored, and his name added to the memorial. He was killed in the line of duty last year.
A candlelight vigil, in connection with the annual ceremony, will be held Thursday evening at 8:00 at the Statehouse.
Brownback calls Friday's ceremony an opportunity to come together and pay tribute “to those who have paid the ultimate price serving the people of Kansas.”
Once Corporal Harwood's name is added, a total of 272 law enforcement officers will be included on the Kansas Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, located on the northeast corner of the capitol grounds.
