Flood Warnings Issued for Southeast Nebraska
05/07/2015

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Flood warnings have been issued for much of southeastern Nebraska, as several inches of rain from overnight thunderstorms runs off already wet ground.

The National Weather Service reported minor flooding on Thursday in Lincoln from Salt Creek, which is nearly 2.5 feet above flood stage and expected to rise 1.5 feet more. Warnings also were issued for Wahoo Creek in Saunders County and the Big Blue River in Gage County.

Weather service meteorologist Cathy Zapotocny (zap-uh-TAHK'-nee) says several Lincoln gauges reported between 5 and 7 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. A gauge near Swanton in Saline County recorded nearly 9 inches and one near Wilbert recorded more than 7.5 inches.

Zapotocny says an unconfirmed report of 10.25 inches came from a gauge four miles northwest of Crete.
