Authorities: Four Pounds of Pot Mailed To Local Man
05/05/2015

(KNZA)--About four pounds of marijuana shipped by U.S. mail.

That's what Jackson County authorities are alleging was in a package shipped from California to  Whiting and intended for a rural Netawaka man.

Sheriff Tim Morse says deputies were investigating 54-year-old Johnny Lee Williams, and watched Tuesday as he picked up a large package at the Whiting Post Office believed to contain a large quantity of pot.

Morse says Williams left the post office, with the package, riding in a pick-up truck that was then stopped by deputies on K-9 Highway.

Williams was arrested on a charge of felony possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The woman driving the truck was allowed to leave the scene.

Alleging that Williams had been distributing marijuana from such shipments received from California, both Jackson and Brown County authorities executed a search warrant at Williams' southern Brown County residence in connection with his arrest.

Williams remains in the Jackson County Jail.

Morse says the investigation is continuing.
