(KAIR)--George Ross Jr. has been named Assistant Principal of Atchison Middle School.
Ross, who serves as a member of the USD 409 Board of Education, will resign from the board, effective May 17th.
District Superintendent Susan Myers says this is to avoid a conflict of interest because “legally in the state of Kansas, you cannot be duly employed by a school district in any capacity and be a board member...and so, he wanted to make sure that he stepped out of the boardship before his principalship started.”
Myers says the board will post a resolution of vacancy of a board position in the newspaper. That will rest for fifteen days. At that time, the board will advertise again through multiple methods that applications will be accepted.
Myers says each candidate will be interviewed by the board in open session, possibly by June 28th.
Ross is replacing Chad Bilderback, who was named Atchison Middle School Principal in April.
