(KLZA)-- After being delayed for several months the John Philip Falter Museum will open this weekend on the southeast corner of 17th and Stone Streets in Falls City.
Dobey ( Falter ) Haws of Lincoln has chaired the effort to renovate the former Richardson County Bank building and turn it into a facility to house the former Falter Art studio and many of John Philip Falters illustrations. While the hope was to open in November for Christmas Opening, Haws says she thinks the wait has been worth it, praising local contractors for a job well done.
At last report more than $100,000 had been raised through various fundraisers and donations to help with the renovation and expenses to operate the Falter Museum. The Grand Opening will be Saturday and Sunday with the museum open Saturday from 10 a-m until 4 p-m and Sunday from 1 – 4 p-m.
Some of the items visitors will see include Falters art studio he had when he lived in Philadelphia. The studio will be set up in a corner so it can be seen at all times. Another wall will be dedicated to the Saturday Evening Post covers illustrated by Falter. There are 129 framed covers to display. About 47 will be displayed at a time because of space limitations. The covers will be rotated about every 4-6 weeks.
The plan is to have the museum open every other weekend. A schedule is posted on the front door.
