(KLZA)-- The Falls City Council members approved an amendment to the construction services contract with Kirkham Michael Engineers in an amount of $197,900 Monday night.
Utility Superintendent Alan Romine says it’s possible the long process of the well project may have pushed the costs higher. When the process for the well project started 2-3 years ago the estimated price was $2.3 - $2.5-million. Bids are to be opened April 27th.
The well project was designed with the intent to get the City water wells in the sell field south of Rulo high enough to alleviate concerns about flooding.
In other business Falls City Chamber of Commerce / Main Street Executive Director David Branch asked the Council for continued monetary support. For the past three years the City has provided $30,000 annually for the Main Street Program. The Council voted 7-0 to approve the funding for the Main Street Program, in the same amount for the next three year. Councilman Mike Dougherty was absent from the meeting.
The Council also approved Mayor Jerry Olivers appointment of Zachaery Ractliffe to the Falls City Police Department. Ractliffe will begin work in June. He will need to attend the Nebraska State Patrol Training Academy in Grand Island beginning this fall.
City Administrator Gary Jorn said he was pleased with the quality of the candidates for the position. He said the decision came down to the interview process.
Also approved was the purchase of a new Case Wheel Loader for the Street Department in an amount of $73,479.
