(KNZA)--A former Kansas lawmaker from Holton has been sentenced to prison.
40-year-old Trent Ledoux learned his fate Monday when he was sentenced to a year and a-half in federal prison for defrauding Farmers and Merchants Bank of Colby of more than $460,000. Prosecutors say Ledoux obtained the money in three bank loans to buy cattle. Instead, he deposited nearly $28,000 dollars into his campaign account in late 2011 and 2012.
According to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, Ledoux has also been ordered to pay $461,000 in restitution.
Ledoux pleaded guilty in May of last year to one count of bank fraud.
He served in the Kansas Legislature from June 2011 to 2013.
Although Ledoux violated federal bank fraud statutes by improperly depositing the money, he did not violate Kansas campaign ethics laws.
