(KAIR)--The city of Atchison has received an official notice from the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the environmental impact study conducted as part of the possible expansion effort at the Atchison Airport.
City Manager Trey Cocking says that “the FAA has issued what is known as a FONSI, or a Finding Of No Significant Impact...as far as the FAA is concerned, this would allow the city to proceed to the next step in the project.”
Cocking says the next step in the process involves City Commission action on possible land acquisition for the project.
The report included input gathered from the public during a January public hearing. Concerns about the project were voiced at the meeting including whether the expansion was needed, as well as the possible financial impact on residents.
