(KNZA)--There will be a vacancy on the Hiawatha City Commission as of May 4th when the new mayor takes office.
Police Commissioner Steffen Shamburg and Finance Commissioner Bill Collins are running for mayor, and the election on April 7th will decide which position will be open.
Individuals interested in seeking appointment for the open seat on the Commission may submit a Letter of Interest by 5 p.m. on April 15th to the Hiawatha City Clerk at 701 Oregon Street., Hiawatha, KS 66434.
Interviews will be conducted at the Commission meeting on April 20th, and appointment will be made at the Commission meeting on May 4th.
The selected individual will fill the Commission seat until the next election for that seat, at which time they would have the opportunity to run for re-election.
Those interested must be a registered voter in the City of Hiawatha at the time of the appointment. An interest in city government and the willingness to dedicate some of your time to the residents of Hiawatha are also desired qualities.
