Peru, Neb.) Grand Island artist Nancy Fairbanks, a native of Auburn, will demonstrate throwing pottery “on the wheel, Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2 in the lower level of the A.V. Larsen building at Peru State.
Fairbanks, who will be joined by Peru State Adjunct Art Instructor Terry Van Gundy, will also demonstrate the mixing of glazes, glazing pottery and firing the kilns.
The public is encouraged to attend the free demonstrations. Times are as follows: Monday, March 30, 2-3:15 p.m. 12:30-1:45 p.m.
Wednesday, April 1, 9:30 -10:45 a.m. and 2 – 3:15 p-m.
Thursday, April 2, 12:30-1:45 p.m.
Fairbanks’ presentations are co-sponsored by the Peru State Art Department and the Southeast Nebraska Fine Arts Association.
In her rural Grand Island studio, Fairbanks creates unique decorative and functional pottery and sculpture. She has been an “artist-in-residence” for the Nebraska Arts Council and teaches various pottery methods in schools across the state. She produced the Governor’s Art Awards for the State of Nebraska. Fairbanks’ work can be found in the collections of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery in Lincoln, the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney and in private collections around the world. Her work is very popular at regional art fairs and is available at art galleries across the United States.
