USD 111 Board Decides to Move Grades, Tables School Closing
03/25/2015

(KNZA)--The Doniphan West Board of Education during a special meeting Tuesday evening tabled a decision on the proposed closure of  a school, but did decide to move some grades.

Superintendent Rex Bollinger says the board voted unanimously to move the 7th and 8th grades from the elementary/middle School near Denton to the high school building in Highland, and move kindergartners from the Primary School in Highland to elementary/middle School, beginning next school year .

However, Bollinger says the board held off on making a decision whether to close the Primary School so more information can be collected. He says the board wants to make sure they explore all options before deciding to close the school.

The board held a hearing March 9th to receive patron input on a proposal to close the school due to state cuts to public education. The building currently houses preschool and kindergartners along with the district office.

Bollinger says the district is projecting fifty-four 7th and 8th graders for next school year and there is currently room in the high school building to house them. Twenty kindergartners are projected for next school year.
