No Injuries In Early Morning Falls City House Fire
03/25/2015

(KLZA)-- No injuries reported in an early morning house fire at 2009 McLean Street in Falls City early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called at 4:02 a-m, to a home owned by Jim Wicham.  The home is rented by Katrina Miller.  Miller, another adult and two children were in the home and all were able to get out without injury.

Six Falls City Volunteer Firefighters and nine members of the Falls City Rural Fire Department responded to the call. Damage to the home was estimated at approximately $15,000.

The fire was electrical in nature, apparently wiring running up along a sewer pipe shorted out.

Falls City Volunteer Fire Chief Ken Simpson had high praise for  those battling the blaze. He noted that 8-10 new members have joined the department in last couple of years. When the fire truck arrived on the scene smoke was coming out of the windows of the house.

The fire was discovered in the wall when firefighters noticed paint blistering on an upstairs wall.

Chief Simpson again emphasized the importance of calling 9-1-1 immediately when there is a fire. No one in the home had a cell phone and they were unable to wake neighbors to call for help. The Fire Department was called after the occupants of the home drove to Kwik-Shop to call 9-1-1.

The Fire Department were on the scene until approximately 6:30 a-m.
