(KNZA)--A special meeting, focused on the fate of the Doniphan West Primary School, will be held Tuesday.
That follows discussion by the Board of Education for USD 111 during there most recent session, and comes on the heels of a strongly attended public hearing recently held about the possibility of closing the Highland-based primary school
The closure is proposed based on state cuts to public education, and would be made in attempt to save other programs and to avoid more drastic cuts. "The board is trying to make a more efficient use of taxpayer funds," Superintendent Rex Bollinger tells MSC News. "It looks like a savings initially of about $70,000 to $75,000."
Among suggestions, should the decision be made to close the school which houses preschool and kindergarten classes, is to move those 85 students to the Doniphan West Elementary School, near Denton.
Tuesday evening's Special Meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 in the Doniphan West High School Family and Consumer Science Room.
According to the minutes of the March 9th Board of Education meeting, action could possibly be taken.
