(KAIR)--The viaduct located on Atchison's Sixth Street has been scheduled to receive needed repair work.
The City Commission on Monday, approved a contract with Bottorff construction to make the repairs at a cost of approximately $271,000.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says that people driving over the viaduct may not notice some of the problems with it, such as the exposed re bar coming apart and the expansion joints showing wear. He adds that the plan would would extend the useful life of the viaduct.
Commissioners decided to use chain link fencing for the project over a wrought iron fencing option that Pregont says would have added an additional $50,000 to the project cost.
