State Helping Brown Co Fill Appraiser Void
02/27/2015

(KNZA)--The state is helping Brown County in filling the void created by the unexpected death of County Appraiser Paula Jones.

Anna Porter with the state Property Valuation Division began work in the appraiser’s office Friday.

Prior to beginning work, Porter met with the County Commission to present them with a contract for their review.  She will be paid a salary plus expenses.   Porter also discussed her schedule and what would be expected to happen in the office next week.

The field staff representative for Brown County, Penne Wege, will also be helping in the office.

After being asked by County Clerk Debbie Parker about the guidelines to follow in hiring a new county appraiser, Porter suggested placing an ad with the Kansas County Appraiser’s Association.

In other business,  County Treasurer Cheryl Lippold discussed with Commissioners the state’s decision to no longer send out renewal notices for vehicles starting in May.

Lippold said the county is giving counties the opportunity to send out renewals on their own.  However, she said the postage alone would run the county around $5,000.

Commissioners said they want to continue to notify the public of the renewals and asked Lippold to keep them informed of any updates.
