Doniphan Co Considering Recycling Program
02/20/2015

(KNZA)--Doniphan County is considering implementing a countywide recycling program.

County Commissioners discussed the issue with county Solid Waste Coordinator Dennis Foster during this week’s meeting, but took no action.

A countywide survey will be conduct of residents, and costs associated with the program compiled, before a decision is made.

Foster, who also serves as an environmentalist with Northeast Kansas Environmental Services, presented the Commission with a preliminary draft of the 2015 Doniphan County Solid Waste Management 5-year plan. The plan is to be submitted to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

The Commission voted to provide $10,000 in financial support to Northeast Kansas Environmental Services for 2015.

In other business, Sheriff Chad Clary informed Commissioners that the sheriff’s department has launched an investigation into an illegal dump that was discovered in the area of U.S. Highway 36 and Oxide Road. Clary says the department will turn its findings over to the county attorney for prosecution.

He says the Road and Bridge Department cleaned up the site on February 11th.
