(KMZA)--The first phase of budget cuts, arising from state funding shortfalls, are approved for the Marysville school district.
That follows a unanimous vote of the USD 364 Board of Education last week approving the maneuver for cost savings for the district.
Included is a reduction in classified staff and a reduction of hours for the remaining classified staff in March, April, and May.
No overtime will be allowed, travel will be restricted, energy consumption will be reduced and purchases will be restricted.
The Marysville Advocate reports the cuts affect eight secretarial and paraprofessional positions effective March 1st.
A second round of cuts is likely in the future, with preliminary discussion including the possibility of reducing 4 to 6 teaching jobs in preparation of the 2015-2016 budget.
No formal decision has yet been reached regarding that possibility.
