Nemaha County Nebraska Purchasing Two Excavators

(KLZA)-- Nemaha County, Nebraska Commissioners approved the purchase two excavators when the met Wednesday.  A 2015 John Deere 210G Excavator at a cost of $193,850 is being purchased from Murphy Tractor & Equipment Company and a Caterpillar 320EL Excavator will be purchased from Nebraska Machinery at a cost of $193,200.  

Annual appointments were also made during the meeting. The Board of Commissioners will serve as Highway Superintendent with the Chairman to sign documents.  Renee Critser was reappointed Emergency Management Director and Tom Catlett as Surveyor. The reappointment of Loras Baumhover as Nemaha County Veterans Service Officer was tabled until the February 11, meeting. 

Peru State College President Dan Hansen, Peru Mayor Jay Moran, Mike Gerdes and Bob Engles met with Commissioners to discuss the progress on the revitalization of the Park Avenue Street Project in Peru.  Mayor Moran asked if the County would be willing to provide in-kind service with sidewalk and debris removal. Nemaha County has an interlocal agreement with the City of Peru that will expire in December.  

Larry Holtzman presented a cost estimate of $2,840 for the replacement of two windows in the north exercise room at the Multi-Plex Building in Auburn.  Commissioners voted to approve the project. 

Southeast Nebraska Community Action Director Sasha Rightsell presented a quarterly report. She highlighted the Nemaha County Gives Back program sponsored by the Nemaha County Hospital.  Money raised helped 114 children with gift cards and 48 families with food and gift cards for Christmas.  

New Nemaha Against Drug and Alcohol Director Jessica Baker was introduced to the Board. She noted she has been busy with grant applications and attending meetings.
