Probation for Nebraska Man Who Steals From His Mother
01/24/2015

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Beatrice man to two years of probation for stealing more than $20,000 from his mother.

Police say 66-year-old William C. Gingery was acting as a power of attorney for his mother when thousands of dollars went missing from her bank account. The Beatrice Daily Sun reports she was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.

Investigators also found that several months of long-term nursing care insurance payments sent to Gingery on behalf of his mother never were deposited into her account.

Gage County Attorney Roger Harris says Gingery has made restitution of almost $13,400. Gingery's brother is now acting as his mother's power of attorney.

Harris says the state isn't seeking additional restitution, per the family's request.
