(KNZA)--Two Highland Community College faculty members have been honored by their selection as recipients of scholarship awards from the Kansas Council of Instructional Administrators.
Mathematics instructor Lauren Jacobs and nursing instructor Melissa Cook are among four recipients of this year’s $1,000 awards to community and technical college faculty in Kansas based on the quality of their applications.
Cook is a faculty member in the LPN program at the College's Technical Center in Atchison. She will use the scholarship to attend the ATI National Nurse Educator Summit in San Diego.
Jacobs is a mathematics faculty member at Highland’s Perry Center. She will use her scholarship to attend a conference at Michigan State University dedicated to applications of a “flipped classroom” and networking among educators using different styles of flipped classrooms.Jacobs is also a recent winner of the Bruning Award from the HCC Foundation, which she used learn about the concept of a flipped classroom.
Highland Vice President for Academic Affairs Peggy Forsberg said college hasn't had a KCIA scholarship recipient for at least five years. She says having two this year, given the excellent field of applicants, is a real honor and speaks well of the college's “innovative faculty.”
