(KAIR)--An Atchison man was taken into custody Friday afternoon after allegedly striking an Atchison police officer during a medical call.
According to Police Chief Mike Wilson, Atchison EMS was dispatched to an apartment located in the 300 block of Santa Fe Street just after 3:30, for a report of an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, they discovered that 20-year-old John Poff had regained consciousness and had started to verbally threaten them, along with the police officers who were called in to assist. During this confrontation, Poff allegedly struck one one of the officers.
Poff was arrested, and booked into the Atchison County Jail on charges including battery on a police officer, obstructing the legal process, and telephone harassment.
Wilson says the telephone harassment charge stems from a December 17th incident in which Poff allegedly unlawfully texted a 13-year-old child.
