(KLZA)-- The Mound City Board of Education met Wednesday with the architect and construction manager for the school addition projects approved by voters earlier this year.
Superintendent Ken Eaton says several items came in over budget. The total cost came in at $2.9-million which is just over the $2,880,000 approved by voters. The high bids are going to require some tweaking to the plan to meet the budget.
Later in the meeting the Board approved a resolution authorizing $2,880,000 in Lease Certificates of Participation. This will allow L.J. Hart company to sell the lease certificates to pay for the projects at the Mound City School.
The Board also approved the annual District Audit, which had no major findings.
The annual food service review was done during the meeting. Superintendent Eaton said USDA rules concerning school lunch program are going to mean a price increase for the school lunch program next year. Local school districts must follow a USDA formula to increase prices so much each year or decline federal reimbursement for the food service program and make up the money locally.
Eaton says the price for lunch will need to increase a dime to $2.15 per meal. He noted school food services, breakfast and lunch are a service and the goal is not to make money. However, a $17,000 loss last year was higher than the planned loss of 5-10,000 dollars to provide food services. Eaton said some other things are being done to try and reduce the loss.
Reports were also received during the meeting on Student Council activities and from teachers Sarah Osburn and Derek Petty.
