(KAIR)--MGP Ingredients is doing their part to make sure that local families in need have a happier holiday.
The Atchison based company announced Friday that they have partnered with various local non-profit agencies to distribute approximately 1,000 food boxes to those in need. Each box contains nearly 45 pounds of non-perishable items to feed a family of four for a week.
Company Spokeswoman Shanae Randolph says this the first year they have participated in the distribution, and it is one of several efforts undertaken by the company and its employees to help brighten the holiday season for others.
Organizations that partnered with MGP include the Atchison County Food Pantry at First Christian Church, the Salvation Army, Pantry of Hope, Catholic Charities, and Benedictine College. Randolph says these organizations not only helped distribute the boxes, but were able to get the word out about the distribution times through their networks.
The distribution took place Friday afternoon and Friday evening, as well as Saturday morning in the alley south of Atchison Wholesale, off North Fourth Street.
