(KLZA)-- Twenty students from across Nebraska are being honored by Secretary of State John Gale for their work during the primary and general elections. Each student will receive a $50 gift card by the Nebraska Bankers Association, which along with the Secretary of State’s office, sponsors the Youth Election Service (YES) program.

Youth age 14 to 18 are required to work at least four hours during each election in order to qualify for the drawing in which names are selected for 20 gift cards, worth $50 each. Gale said many students go above and beyond.

One hundred and sixty-eight students from 25 counties took part in the YES program, with the largest majority coming from Holt (31 students) and Richardson (31 students) counties. In all, students worked around 865 hours between the primary and general elections.

Students serve in a variety of roles: clerks, election set up and tear down, judge assistants, poll workers and messengers. During the drawing, two winners were selected from each of the five designated districts. They include; Schuyler Kuhlmann, Table Rock; Avery Scott, Falls City.

An additional ten names were picked among those students who worked eight hours or more during either the primary or general elections: Treyvin Bek, Falls City; Justin Ernst, Rulo; Brandon Schawang, Salem; Daniel Keithley, Falls City; Wyatt Martin, Salem; Theodore Stutheit, Falls City; and Payton Adams, Verdon.

All of the YES participants will receive a certificate from the Secretary of State’s office honoring them for their service.
