( KNZA)--The Hiawatha Board of Education has received the results of a survey sent to patrons in the district to gather their input on two possible bond proposals for facility improvements.
Nearly 36-hundred survey's were sent to registered voters in the district last month. The survey's were to be returned by November 21st.
Superintendent Penny Hargrove told the Board of Education Monday evening they received more than 900 survey's back. Hargrove says 420 favored option one, which included upgrades and repairs to the district's existing three schools at an estimated cost of about $9.4 to $10.8 million. 163 favored option 2, which included all the projects listed in option 1 plus the construction of an elementary school multipurpose gym, construction of a career exploration center for the middle school and high school, and renovation of the high school restrooms. 319 were opposed to any bond proposal.
A committee of patrons, armed with an evaluation of the district's buildings' needs, developed the two options.
A special board meeting was set for Wednesday, December 17th at 7 in the evening to make a decision on a bond proposal to present to voters.
