(KLZA)-- The unemployment rate in Nebraska dropped to 3.4 percent in October. That represents a four-tenths of a point decline from October 2013.
Locally, Richardson County has an October unemployment rate of 3.4 percent, which is down five-tenths of a percent. It is 1.3 percent lower than October 2013.
Pawnee and Otoe Counties have the lowest area unemployment rates for October at 2.6 percent. Those figures represent a dip of five-tenths in Otoe County. For Pawnee County the rate is unchanged from September.
The Johnson County unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 2.8 percent. Gage County had the only increase in the jobless rate with a jump of 1.1 percent for the month to 5.1 percent. That is the second highest unemployment rate for any of the 93 counties in Nebraska, behind only the 5.7 percent unemployment rate in Thurston County.
The statewide unemployment rate of 3.4 percent is among the best in the nation, trailing only North Dakota at 2.8 percent and South Dakota at 3.3 percent.
Kansas is 10th in the nation in October at 4.4 percent, Iowa is in at number 12 at 4.5 percent and Missouri is 23rd in the country with a 5.9 percent jobless rate.
