(KNZA)--Although it's known that 3,165 Westar energy customers, including those in Hiawatha, were left without power Saturday afternoon, it's not immediately clear exactly what led up to the outage.
According to a Westar spokeswoman, the outage is blamed on an electrical pole fire; however, the specific location, and the cause of the fire, are not immediately known.
Several Hiawatha residents have claimed that a pole was seen to be on fire south of Wal-Mart, but that location is not immediately confirmed by the energy company.
Customers stretching from Hiawatha to near White Cloud have reported being affected by the outage, which began around 4:00 and lasted around an hour.
