Prescribed Burns Planned for Nebraska State Parks
11/16/2014

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Game and Parks has scheduled prescribed burns of woodlands and grasslands at three state parks as weather allows.

Burns are scheduled for Ponca State Park in northeast Nebraska's Dixon County and at two parks in southeast Nebraska: Rock Creek Station State Historical Park in Jefferson County and Indian Cave State Park in Richardson County.

The burns are designed to reduce brush and small tree densities to allow for oak tree regeneration, increase native wildflowers and enhance wildlife habitat. Experts also say the burns will stimulate the growth of grasses and remove invasive tree and brush species.
