(KNZA)--Following the defeat of a capital outlay resolution during last week’s general election, the Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education has adopted a new resolution.
Following discussion at their regular meeting Monday, Superintendent Todd Evans said the board adopted a resolution that allows for a maximum levy of 6 mills for five years. Evans says the new resolution is similar to the one currently in place, but allows for the expanded use of capital outlay funds as approved by this year’s Kansas Legislature. Voters last week defeated a resolution that would have allowed for a continuous and permanent levy of up to 8 mills. The resolution, which was adopted by the board in May, was placed on the ballot following a valid protest petition. The new resolution must be published twice and is also subject to a protest petition.
The district’s current resolution is set to expire at the end of the current school year. If a new resolution can’t be approved by then, the district wouldn’t be able to levy any mills for capital outlay.
