(KNZA)--Brown County vote totals are now official from last week’s general election.
County Commissioners, meeting as a canvassing board, on Monday canvassed the returns from the general election.
There were eighty-three provisional ballots cast. A provisional ballot is used to record a vote when there are questions about a given voter’s eligibility.
The board approved the counting of 52 complete provisional ballots and one partial, with 30 provisional ballots not counted according to state statutes.
County Election Officer Debbie Parker reported a 55 percent voter turnout—including the provisional ballots.
In Hiawatha, a sales tax proposal to fund the construction of a city-owned movie theater was officially defeated by a 346 vote margin, with 699 votes cast against the proposal to 353 in favor.
