Residents who want to participate are encouraged to turn their front porch light on.

The Brown County Sheriff’s office will hold it’s 7th annual Trick-or-Treat night on Wednesday evening.

Staff will be on the lookout for ghosts and goblins starting at 5 at the sheriff’s office located at 709 Utah Street in Hiawatha and will go until they run out of treats

The staff, who will be dressed in kid friendly costumes, will be handing out  trick or treat bags containing safety information, mood cups, pencils, stickers, candy and orange glow sticks for safety.

Sheriff John Merchant says they also have a Halloween safety information booklet from McGruff available free of charge at the Sheriffs office.  He encourages parents and caregivers to pick up a booklet before Halloween.

I cant understand why Hiawatha cant celebrate Halloween on a single night like most towns and cities with sane people in them. That night would be October 31. It shouldnt matter what day of the week it falls on, a single night on the 31st. Every time I try to explain this to people not from here they typically reply with the same disbelief.
