(KAIR)--Atchison County and the City of Atchison have agreed to purchase a new emergency alert system, and Atchison county residents are now eligible to take advantage of this new, free service.
County Emergency Management Director Wes Lanter says the Code Red alert system will provide two different types of notifications, with the first providing helpful, non weather related information from the county and city such as street closures, boil orders, or any other incident that is happening in the local area.
The second type of notification will provide severe weather alerts directly from the National Weather Service. Lanter says this kind of alert will not be county wide, but instead will target those areas directly effected by severe weather.
A link to register for the alerts can be found on the Atchison County website atchisoncountyks.org , as well as the City of Atchison website cityofatchison.com. If you do not have internet access, you can call the Atchison County Emergency Management office at 913-833-4025 to register.
