KNZA)--A Mayetta teen facing child sex charges will not be tried as an adult.
That decision was handed down Friday during a hearing held in a Jackson County Courtroom involving 16-year-old Weston Hasty. He's charged with three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
County Attorney Shawna Miller says the court did grant extended juvenile jurisdiction, meaning that, if convicted, Hasty will receive both a juvenile and adult sentence. If he successfully completes the juvenile sentence, he will avoid the adult penalties.
A pre-trial hearing has been set for the morning of November 20th.
Authorities allege that Hasty committed the crimes in June at a Mayetta child care facility operated by his mother.
