(KTNC)--The Pawnee City Council has selected a new company to provide the city's insurance. After hearing presentations from three companies Monday night, the council voted to award the city's insurance bid to LARM Insurance, at a cost of $47,919 per year for a three year commitment.
LARM stands for League Association of Risk Management. It is a governmental pool agency, associated with the Nebraska League of Municipalities.
The policy includes the city's property, liability, and workmen's comp coverage. The city has had several workmen's comp claims in the past year, and that increased the cost of the coverage.
LARM did not have the lowest bid. UNICO's bid was about $2,000 per year less than LARM. EMC, which had been providing the city's insurance, bid a little over $53,500.
The council vote to accept LARM's bid was two in favor, one against, with one abstention. Mayor Duane Westing cast the deciding vote to accept the bid.
Councilman Charlie Hatfield voted against the motion, saying he would have preferred a one-year contract rather than a three-year commitment.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says LARM will send a representative to help Pawnee City develop work safety, loss control, and pre-screen work programs as a way to help the city reduce its workmen's comp rates.
