(KNZA)--Highland Community College's Viticulture and Enology program has secured a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant, which is to be utilized in 2015.
Highland V&E program director Scott Kohl applied for the grant through the Kansas Department of Agriculture and will partner with KDA to implement the grant objectives.
The grant for just over $50,000 will go to the V&E program to continue extension activities across the state, including workshops, site visits, and industry consultation for Kansas vineyard and winery owners.
A portion of the funding will also support an internship program designed to connect students interested in the industry with Kansas vineyards and wineries. There will also be a professional wine-judging training session for interested winemakers.
