(KAIR)--Atchison residents will have an opportunity this weekend to dispose of some clutter in their home, and and the same time, help to beautify the city.
The city is preparing to hold it's annual fall cleanup event this Saturday from 8AM to Noon. Chairperson for the Atchison Beautification Committee Rita Hartman says that the collection process is similar to recent years, but this year, they are actually going to have two different trash trucks come and pick up your waste. The first truck will pick up yard and garden waste, and the second will pick up metal, TVs, and other appliances. Hartman reminds people that if you are disposing of wood, that you make sure it is properly bundled, and all yard waste should be in a bag or box.
If you would prefer hauling the waste yourself, Hartman says that there has been a drop off site designated at the 1100 block of Main Street to accept it, one which will take a wide range of products such as paint, glass, newspapers, and plastic. There will also be a group available at the site to take your computers and small electronics.
Hartman adds that due to the overwhelming amount of paint dropped off last year, there will be an 11:00 cutoff time for paint disposal. Also, tires will not be accepted during the fall cleanup as they were during the spring event.
Hartman says they could use all the help they can get to collect the waste, and volunteers are welcome. If you volunteered in the spring and you wish to do so for this event, Hartman asks that you wear the same t shirt that you were given during the spring event. If you are volunteering for the first time, you will receive a shirt, but they are only available on a first come, first serve basis.
If you would like to schedule a pickup or you have questions, please call the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce at 913-367-2427. The deadline to schedule a pickup is Saturday morning at 11:00.
