(KTNC)--The Nemaha NRD Board of Directors heard a report last week about a recent meeting with Barada area residents regarding issues with domestic wells. Several people have reported their well levels have been lowered or gone dry.
NRD Water Department Manager Chuck Wingert told the board he plans to investigate the matter further once harvest is over. He said NRD staff is working with landowners in the area to measure and register their domestic wells.
NRD Director Jon Keithley of Falls City asked on behalf of some of the landowners to have the board consider placing a moratorium on new wells in the area until the current issues can be investigated. That issue could be placed on the board’s agenda next month.
